Every Alaska LLC must continuously maintain a registered agent and a registered office in the state. The requirement comes from Alaska Statute ยง 10.50.055, it applies from the day your Articles of Organization are filed, and the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing (Alaska's business filing office; the state has no Secretary of State) will not keep an entity in good standing without a valid agent on record.
The registered agent is the fixed, findable point of contact for your LLC. Lawsuits get served there. Official notices from the Division arrive there. The agent's name and address sit on the public record, which is exactly the point: the state and anyone with a legal claim must always be able to reach your company.
Alaska draws the eligibility lines tighter than most states. The registered agent must be one of two things:
Two consequences follow directly, and both are verified against the current state form and statute. First, an LLC cannot serve as a registered agent in Alaska; only individuals and corporations qualify. Second, your LLC cannot act as its own agent. The entity filing the paperwork is barred from naming itself.

Get StartedThe agent's business office must be the same as the registered office, and state forms require an Alaska physical address plus an Alaska mailing address. A PO box can only ever be the mailing side of that pair, never the physical office. The agent needs to actually be at the registered office during business hours, because service of process is delivered in person.
Alaska uses one Statement of Change for nearly all entity types: Form 08-409, Change of Registered Agent, filed with the Division for a $25 fee. The current form PDF is on the Division's site. Worth knowing: the biennial report cannot carry an agent change, so if your agent situation shifts mid-cycle, Form 08-409 is the only path.
